Youthfront had its last scheduled day of public packaging on Sunday,
January 31, and we had an initial goal of packaging 200,000 meals. We
are amazed to announce that Kansas City’s response to
Youthfront’s Feed the Hunger Haiti Initiative was unbelievable.
Together we have packaged 302,832 meals to send to Haiti.
The
momentum behind this initiative is so strong we have decided to extend
it for one more day of packaging; this Wednesday, February 3 will be
sixth and final day for public packaging. Group registration for
Wednesday is available online.
Groups can sign up to package by
clicking here.
A
big thanks to those who came out to package and volunteer over the last
two weeks. We have seen over 2500 people and over 100 different groups
from the Kansas City area and all the way up to Lincoln, Nebraska have
join us in this initiative.
In less than a month’s time, Kansas
City, as one small part of the global body of Christ could send as many
as half a million meals to our starving brothers and sisters in Haiti.
That is remarkable. God is good!
However, our work is not finished. We are planning to send out our first container in mid-February through
TouchGlobal.
They are on the ground, awaiting our shipment to distribute these meals
to those most vulnerable individuals further inland who have not
received much of the aid that has been stuck in Port Au Prince. We are
also working right now with an ongoing partnership with
The Global Orphan Project.
We plan to send ongoing shipments to a number of orphanages that they
have set up in Haiti among local faith communities. It has been amazing
to see the hand of God opening doors throughout this process.
In addition to the all attention that
Youthfront’s Feed the Hunger Haiti Initiative
has received from the local news media, we have and will continue to
document each step of this journey, and we fully anticipate to be able
to show and tell this narrative as it unravels. We have been given
tangible invitation to join the story of God’s justice and mercy to
Haiti and around the world. This is a story that illustrates how
through the responses of passionate youth, God brought a city together
to proclaim our faith and join with the voices of those in Haiti, who
amidst tragedy and devastation sing praises to a faithful God, who
provides and Restores.
As the coverage of Haiti may begin to
dwindle in the media, the need for ongoing sustainable relief will
continue for months and months. Youthfront wants to invite you to
continue to support this relief initiative by hosting a Feed the Hunger
Haiti Initiative packaging line. Youthfront has 37 packaging lines set
up in the auditorium right now, and we hope set up all 37 lines at
satellite locations: churches, schools, community centers throughout
the city. Imagine having a FTH line in your church lobby youth room, or
class room for the next month as a service and spiritual formation
opportunity. We are continuing to develop a full media experiential
curriculum to accompany the individual lines. We will have that
curriculum available as soon as possible.
