Youthfront: Feed the Hunger
“ What does the Lord require of you, but that you do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8
Youthfront’s Feed the Hunger Haiti Initiative is currently sending meals to displaced children and orphans in Haiti effected by the earthquake. In January, Youthfront invited the youth of Kansas City to join in this effort. The invitation to take part in God's story with Haiti, was met with an unbelievable amount of participation from as many as 100 local churches, youth groups, schools, businesses and families.
After six days of public packaging in January, we have made these food lines available to set up at your location. We estimate as many as 3,000 people have joined this inter-generational movement of Justice and Mercy. To date, Youthfront’s Feed the Hunger Haiti Initiative has packaged over 400,000 meals to send to Haiti. We are gearing up to send a team to document the first container with 285,000 meals to Haiti that is scheduled to leave by the end of February.
The reality is, media coverage of Haiti will begin to dwindle, but the need for continued aid will remain for the months and years to come. We want to be a long-term resource of ongoing support. Right now, throughout the city groups are bringing Feed the Hunger into their buildings to continue the efforts of this movement of Justice and Mercy.
In an effort to be good stewards of the resources we've been entrusted with, we have been documenting this story of God's Love for Haiti. Youthfront has partnered with local based C3 Ministries’ The Global Orphan Project. The Global Orphan Project is investing in the mental, physical and spiritual lives of those displaced children who will ultimately inherit the long term reconstruction of Haiti by building sustainable villages and orphanages in the broken places in Haiti.
By meeting the physical hunger of these displaced children, we become co-agents with God to help bring them into relationship with Jesus Christ and enact God’s justice and mercy throughout the earth. This is a tangible expression of God’s promise to complete in the Spirit the work that we start in the flesh.
The hope of Feed the Hunger is to help Kansas City's youth see the connection between the poverty and starvation around the world and the choices we make everyday. As we continue to seek to find ways to live creatively and sacrificially, challenging students to do the same, Christ will be formed in and among us. As we partner together to feed the hunger in Haiti and around the world, may we learn to be more generous with what we have, more responsible with what we have been given and may we live in rhythm with the life- giving Spirit of Jesus.
“The LORD blesses everyone who freely gives food to the poor.” Proverbs 22:9
